Who created ORM Designer?

ORM Designer team consists of four people. Ludek Vodicka, Frantisek Troster, Iva Kubickova and Martin Srom. Ludek Vodicka is the chief developer of ORM Designer, Frantisek Troster is the creator of ORM Designer web page and PHP ORM framework consultant, Iva Kubickova is our community assistant and Martin Srom works as the canvas drawing developer.

Why we created ORM Designer?

First version of ORM Designer was built in 2007 for our company needs. After a while we realized that this tool could be usefull for many ORM developers, so we decided to create public version with a fancy interface ;-)

Who is ORM Designer intended for?

ORM Designer is useful for any developer who use ORM framework for his projects. With our tool he can save time and avoid errors creating application model. Instead of writing all definitions by hand he simply designs everything.

How many users do we have?

After about 8 months we have around 100 customers.

Why choose ORM Designer?

Because ORM Designer can make your job much easier and can save your hair from getting grey too soon. You won’t find any tool that can compare with the ORM framework support provided by ORM Designer. You can find many good tools to design MySQL database schema or generic UML diagram like MySQL Workbench or DB Designer. But what you won’t find in these tools is import from ORM definitions, many-to-many relationship support, inheritance support, ORM framework specific definitions, splitting model into standalone modules and many more. All these features are provided by ORM Designer.

What are ORM Designer’s top features?

  • Intuitive, nice and user friendly interface (http://www.orm-designer.com/user-interface)
  • Model import/export for every supported ORM framework with automatic layout arranging (http://www.orm-designer.com/files-and-serialization)
  • Advanced ORM framework techniques support like Inheritance, behaviours, many-to-many relations
  • Model import from DbDesigner and MySql workbench
  • Assistants and wizards helping you with ORM framework definitions. http://www.orm-designer.com/custom-object-properties
  • Model is stored in a human-readable XML format. Good for SVN versioning. (http://www.orm-designer.com/files-and-serialization)
  • Model can be divided into multiple modules stored on different places. Good for plugin sharing. (http://www.orm-designer.com/programming-practices)
  • When designing your model you create also project documentation at the same time
  • Project tree for searching and model manipulation (http://www.orm-designer.com/model-manipulation)
  • Search through whole model for any object type
  • And much more ;-)

About ORM Designer

ORM Designer is a tool for modelling entity relationship diagrams (ERD). The biggest advantage is full support of any ORM framework which has its definitions stored in a markup language or other structured file.

Currently supported ORMs are PHP Doctrine, PHP Propel and CakePHP frameworks, but more will be added in close future.
